The New Civic Offices, designed by HLM architects, is the central hub of the London Borough of Greenwich's service delivery model and is designed to work in unison with local centres in the adjoining wards, and features a visually stunning natural stone facade.
The stone used on the façade was a Jura Limestone sourced from Germany. On the soffits the stone was 30mm thick, and on the vertical façade, 40mm thick.
Aliva carried out the structural design and supplied the stone support systems utilising both Ali Stone 2 and Ali Stone 3.
Ali Stone 2 was used for the vertical façade and is an aluminium alloy system comprised of vertical beams and profiles to which horizontal beams are attached for holding the natural stone panels. A kerf is made in the top and bottom of the stone panel to allow the stainless steel retention pins to be located via plastic slots. This system is also suitable for vertical aligned modules.
Ali Stone 3 was used for the soffits. This aluminium alloy system is comprised of brackets, high structural resistance, box-section vertical profiles and horizontal beams, upon which the Jura Limestone tiles were fastened by hidden plugs anchored at the back.
With completion scheduled for March 2011, the project is another prestigious scheme on which Aliva has helped to deliver a stunning façade.
